GATE / SDNY, Sept 24 â For this
2026 UN General Assembly, the
last of Antonio Guterres'
desultory tenure, Inner City
Press banned
by Guterres applied
on July 25 to re-enter and
cover the speeches and section
of next UNSG. No response. On
September 20 UN Spokesperson
Stephane Dujarric had Inner
City Press removed even from a
Zoom briefing, video here. So
Inner City Press will cover it
from the gate. Ghana's
President John Dramani Mahama
used his address to hammer on
developing nations borrowing
"at interest rates up to eight
times higher than
industrialised nations." He
added, "We must fight
corruption and ensure that
every dollar of our people's
money counts." Here's hoping
for follow-through: at and
about the UN. Ghana's UN
Mission responded,
at least once, to earlier
correspondence from Inner City
Press â a modest distinction
in a beat where many missions
simply do not respond at all.
"We
have noted the concerns
raised regarding your
application for UN media
accreditation and the
questions concerning the
applicable review
procedures," Nuong Faalong,
head of information and
public affairs at the the
Ghanaian Mission wrote. "The
matter has been referred to
the appropriate UN
authorities for
consideration. We will
revert as appropriate should
there be any further
information to convey."
