As Jailed Honduras Journalist Dies of COVID JOH Colludes With UN Guterres Like CPJ

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon, Thread Video
Honduras - The Source - The Root - etc
SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 19 – During the trial that convicted Tony Hernandez, the brother of Honduras' president Juan Orlando Hernandez (JOH), on all four counts of guns and narcotics trafficking and false statements, the Honduran National Police came up again and again in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
And now in July, Honduran journalist David Romero Ellner has died of respiratory failure after contracting COVID-19 while imprisoned at the Támara National Penitentiary. With a history of killing witnesses in prison, JOH authorities had transferred Romero to the National Cardiopulmonary Institute on July 5. Romero was the director of the media outlets Radio Globo and Globo TV, see below.
On June 29 SDNY Judge P. Kevin Castel held a bond hearing on Otto Rene Salguero Morales. Inner City Press live tweeted it, now here.
Inner City Press will continue to cover this and related cases. All questions to the UN, where Antonio Guterres and spokesmen bragged of getting $50,000 from JOH's Honduras, presumptively some Chapo funds, have gone unanswered. Stephane Dujarric won't even take the questions, including about his role in working with Sri Lanka war criminal Palitha Kohona and UNCA to oust Inner City Press, story here, Kohona here), from one dictatorship to another the UN continues.
As to David Romero, it is said that the Committee to Protect Journalists' Natalie Southwick emailed the Honduran Secretariat for the Protection of Human Rights asking for comment on Romero but did not receive a reply. While CPJ did conclusorily reply to Inner City Press' request for action about UN censorship, nothing has been done.
Inner City Press wrote, to CPJ's Joel Simon and others, "This follows up on my previous requests to you for CPJ. I am still banned from the UN and its Zoom room / briefing, 720 days and counting. None of Inner City Press' daily written questions, about Cameroon, Honduras, Burundi, Sri Lanka, Yemen, and UN finances are being answered. No response to application for accreditation submitted to Antonio Guterres' head of Communications Melissa Fleming.  Trigger for this question on deadline: today former Sri Lanka ambassador Palitha Kohona published an article admitting to having used UN Correspondent Association and correspondents you work with in order to get Inner City Press ousted and banned from the UN. See here.    Question: what are you going to do about this?"
A CPJ staffer replied, "Hi Matt,  Thank you for reaching out, and apologies for the delayed response. Given the impact of COVID-19 on the press and the staggering number of recent attacks on the press, our team has been stretched thin and we ask for your patience as we are working through a high volume of urgent cases at this time. This is indeed a very concerning article, and we’ve shared this information with our colleagues on the research side to see if they can look into this further and see what, if anything, we can do."
That was on June 24. Four weeks later, nothing at all was done. CPJ is in the bag with the UN of Guterres. Protection of journalists? We'll have more on this.
This while still-free President Juan Orlando Hernandez, implicated in the case, is now promoting hydroxychloroquine as countering Covid-19, and seeks $340 million from the IMF, here.
Also during Tony Hernandez' trial, the drug ledgers of one Nery Orlando López Sanabria a/k/a Magdaleno were used by the SDNY prosecutors.
Here is an Inner City Press tweeted photo of notebook mentioning "JOH," in Spanish. Inner City Press has repeated asked the United Nations, in New York and Geneva, for comment. Dead silence.
A week after the Tony Hernandez verdict, Magdaleno was murdered in a supposedly maximum security prison in Santa Barbara, Honduras.
The video are very troubling [WARNING] including the guards letting the killers in, here.
At 9 am on October 28 Geneva time Inner City Press in writing asked UN "High Commissioner for Human Rights" Michelle Bachelet and her spokesman Rupert Colville this: "Hello, this is a Press request for OHCHR / Bachelet comment on the murder, on video, in Honduras of 'Magdeleno' whose drug trafficking notebook were used in recent SDNY conviction of Presidential brother Tony Hernandez, a trial Inner City Press covered every day. See video of killing here.
   More on Patreon here.
On October 26 after the murder and release of the video, Inner City Press went to (try to) pose the question to Guterres. The response? Video here. Three UN security vehicles, and even a publicly funded NYPD detective, "protecting" Guterres who already wastes untold public funds on security. Disgusting. A protest has been called for, and is needed - @InnerCityPress response here.  More on Patreon here.

In SDNY Honduras Presidential Bro Tony Cried Poor Gets 2d Pro Bono Milbank Lawyer for April 15

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon, Thread Video
Honduras - The Source - The Root - etc
SDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 25 – During the trial that convicted Tony Hernandez, the brother of Honduras' president Juan Orlando Hernandez (JOH), on all four counts of guns and narcotics trafficking and false statements, the Honduran National Police came up again and again in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Tony Hernandez asked SDNY Judge P. Kevin Castel for a free lawyer, saying he has no more money. On February 24, the hand-over was to occur at 2:30 pm. Inner City Press went to Judge Castel's Courtroom 11D, finding there many it recognized from the trial. But Tony Hernandez would not come out of the holding cell. Inner City Press live tweeted thread here.
Tony has been given, under the Criminal Justice Act and so at US taxpayer expense, a lawyer from the white shoe law firm Milbank, Katherine R. Goldstein, whom we've previously covered representing a Chinese alleged money launderer, here. (Milbank is also in the SDNY in the Puerto Rico debt case, here).
Now on February 25, a second Milbank lawyer has filed a notice of appearance to represent convicted narco-trafficker Tony Hernandez: "NOTICE OF ATTORNEY APPEARANCE: Kingdar Prussien appearing for Juan Antonio Hernandez Alvarado. Appearance Type: Pro Bono. (Prussien, Kingdar)." Pro bono means for free. Inner City Press intends to have more on this.
Tony's sentencing is now April 15. Inner City Press will have more on this.
Earlier, Inner City Press first reported that Mauricio Hernández Pineda, a former member of the National Police of Honduras,  has been arrested and detained on consent. He signed a financial affidavit of poverty - ironic - and was assigned CJA court appointed counsel, Michael Martin. Soon he will appeared before SDNY Judge Castel. Inner City Press will remain on the case.

UNSG Antonio Guterres refused all Press questions about Honduras during the trial and in the nine days since the verdict. On October 29 Inner City Press has asked: "what are the comments and actions of Guterres on the video taped killing of Nery Orlando López a/k/a Magdaleno Meza Fúnez, whose notebooks were used to convict Presidential brother Tony Hernandez in the SDNY court this month? Now Reinero Valle has, as Madgaleno had before his assassination, asked to be moved out of that El Pozo prison due to threats to silence him as a witness, so far without response to his lawyer Nazario Luque? Again, immediately provide the report / read-out of Guterres' four person panel sent to Honduras, and complete read out of his meeting with JOH." Now as of November 2, as Guterres presumptively uses El Chapo's money via JOH to visit strongmen leaders in Turkey and Thailand then, uncontested, waste money at his real home in Lisbon, nothing. Total corrupt.
This while Guterres' UN, despite its protestations and misuse of the concept, enable fake news in Honduras.
On October 27 a publication in Honduras said the UN office of human rights has said nothing. But nothing had been emailed out to its press list, and nothing could be found on its website in Geneva - it turns out news it doesn't want anyone or at least not the drug funded dictators it answers to see it, it puts on obscure sub-sites, see below.
Inner City Press which covered the trial daily has asked the UN for the comment of SG Antonio Guterres who met with JOH in September 2019 and did not even mention corruption, much less drug trafficking.
On October 26 after the murder and release of the video, Inner City Press went to (try to) pose the question to Guterres. The response? Video here. Inner City Press on October 18 asked the defendant's lawyer Omar Malone about this client's post arrest statement, the admitted murders by the cooperating witnesses, and upcoming sentencing submission. Video and answers here.

Here was the post arrest statement as initially put in to the jury, as uploaded to YouTube by Inner City Press, here. The case is US v. Diaz Morales, 15-cr-00379 (Castel).

Honduras Presidential Brother Tony Asks SDNY For Minimum 40 Year Sentence

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon, Thread Video
Honduras - The Source - The Root - etc
SDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 9 – During the trial that convicted Tony Hernandez, the brother of Honduras' president Juan Orlando Hernandez (JOH), on all four counts of guns and narcotics trafficking and false statements, the drug ledgers of one Nery Orlando López Sanabria a/k/a Magdaleno were used by the SDNY prosecutors.
Here is an Inner City Press tweeted photo of notebook mentioning "JOH," in Spanish. Inner City Press has repeated asked the United Nations, in New York and Geneva, for comment. Dead silence.
Now on February 9, Tony Hernandez through his lawyer Omar Malone has filed his sentencing submission, in advance of his February 24 sentencing, asking that he get the minimum: 40 years. More on Patreon here, including comparables and the filing.
It states in part: "On February 24, 2019, the day that Mr. Hernandez is scheduled to be sentenced to a minimum of 40 years imprisonment, he will be 41years old. Therefore, if the Court sentences Mr. Hernandez to the minimum term of imprisonment allowed by law, Mr. Hernandez will be 81 years old before he would be released from prison and immediately deported back to Honduras. Mr. Hernandez was born in the Honduran department of Lempira and is the youngest of four children born to the legal union of Juan Hernandez Villanueva (deceased) and Maria Elvira Alvarado Castillo (76 years old). Mr. Hernandez grew up and has spent his entire life in Honduras. Despite the mischaracterization of Mr. Hernandez as no more than an international drug trafficker, Mr. Hernandez has served his country as a member of the military, pursued and obtained a law degree and managed his family’s small hotel as well as a farm gifted to him by his deceased father. Mr. Hernandez’ childhood and formative years after turning twelve years old were spent in a military boarding school and later as a lieutenant in the military. Mr. Hernandez learned the value of hard work from his family and pursued and engaged in a variety of legitimate vocations including law, business, farming and other agricultural endeavors. Nearly every letter of support (to be filed separately) and/or conversation with family and personal friends of Mr. Hernandez describe him as someone who is “kind,” “gentle,” “generous” and “respectful”. These are people who have known Case 1:15-cr-00379-PKC Document 128 Filed 02/09/20 Page 11 of 15 12 Mr. Hernandez for decades in some instances and describe the idea of him being involved with drug trafficking and/or violence as “totally out of character” for the person they know and love. The overwhelming support Mr. Hernandez has from family, friends and supporters back home cannot be understated. Mr. Hernandez’ history and characteristics are reflective a man who was not a bigshot international drug trafficker. To the contrary, Mr. Hernandez had a home mortgage, car notes, over-drafts on his bank accounts at times and the kind of financial challenges faced by working-class people--not large-scale drug traffickers. Mr. Hernandez worked legitimate jobs and provided financial support for his family and children derived therefrom. Indeed, up until the time of his arrest, Mr. Hernandez’ children and those closest to him relied on him for financial support and now his absence has logically made life more difficult for all of them." Inner City Press will have more on this.

Honduras Prez JOH Slammed by Bipartisan Congressional Group for Corruption While UNSG Supports Him

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon, Thread VideoHonduras - The Source - The Root - etc
SDNY COURTHOUSE, Jan 19 – After Honduras' president's brother was convicted of drug trafficking in a trial that showed the president receiving $1 million from El Chapo, now on January 19 this from Washington DC:
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot L. Engel (D-NY) as well as Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX) along with Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security and Trade Chairman Albio Sires (D-NJ) and Ranking Member Francis Rooney (R-FL), issued the following statement condemning Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández’s decision not to extend the Mission to Support the Fight against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (MACCIH):
“With the stroke of a pen, President Juan Orlando Hernández had the opportunity to extend MACCIH – the mechanism put in place to strengthen Honduras’s capacity to address systemic corruption. Unfortunately, President Hernández chose not to exercise his authority and allowed MACCIH to expire. We strongly condemn this decision.  “Corruption in Honduras has had a corrosive effect on the country and remains a key driver of migration to the United States. The Honduran people are the ones who will suffer the most from this ill-advised decision. We stand with them and support their right to live in a country whose government respects the rule of law and holds corrupt actors accountable. We remain committed to the fight against corruption in Honduras and will continue to support civil society-led efforts.”
In July, the four House leaders sent a letter to President Hernández urging a clean extension of MACCIH, and they reiterated this message in December.
Meanwhile UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, himself corrupt, praised JOH in September 2019 and has refused each and every question from banned Inner City Press about it, and his previous support of JOH, since. It is Guterres who should be in jail.
One of El Chapo's many bribees, former Mexican minister Genaro Garcia Luna, was arraigned and detained on January 3 in Brooklyn in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Inner City Press, which covered the SDNY trial of Tony Hernandez, the brother of Honduras' president Juan Orlando Hernandez whose campaign was shown to be funded by El Chapo, was in Brooklyn for this arraignment and files this report. (Podcast here, Periscopes I, II & III).
Garcia Luna was brought in from the holding cell, wearing a grey sweatshirt and waving to a handful of supports in the Arraignments Courtroom gallery. He is retaining his own counsel, but there were not able to be present on January 3. Cesar de Castro, whose work Inner City Press has covered in the SDNY, appeared for arraignment only. Judge Peggy Kuo said that if Garcia Luna wants a publicly-funded lawyer going forward, he will have to file a financial affidavit.

That seems unlikely. Assistant US Attorney Erin Reid said Garcia Luna has amassed riches which make him a flight risk. No bond package was presented, so Garcia Luna was detained on consent. His next appearance is on January 21 at 9:45 am before Judge Brian Cogan. Inner City Press will remain on this case - and on that of JOH and UN Antonio Guterres, who has hidden his spending including of El Chapo funds, as well as links to SDNY convicted UN briber CEFC China Energy. Guterres bans and censors the Press to conceal his links: but for immunity, a crime. Or crimes.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has refused to answer Inner City Press' questions about his meeting(s) with JOH, and about a four person panel he sent to the country to support JOH.
Inner City Press even before the verdict as the UN Spokespeople Stephane Dujarric and Melissa Fleming in writing, "October 18-1: On Honduras on which you have refused to answer or respond to Inner City Press' as it covers in SDNY the US v Tony Hernandez trial which continues jury deliberations today and has asked you why SG Guterres did not even bring up corruption and drug trafficking when he met president Juan Orlando Hernandez, 1) please immediately describe activities of the UN system and resident coordinator / representative on JOH's current terms and 2) what now are Guterres' belated comments and actions if any on that last night JOH's National Party majority in the Honduran parliament passed a law making itslef immune, and that Honduran police dispersed hundreds of demonstrators with tear gas on Wednesday in Tegucigalpa who demanded the resignation of President Juan Orlando Hernandez, suspected by the American courts of collaborating with the drug traffickers?"
  No answer all all.
The trial began with a bang on October 2 with the charge that already life imprisoned El Chapo Guzman gave the defendant $1 million for this brother, the president. On October 7, sworn witness Alex Ardon described the meeting, with both El Chapo and Tony Hernandez present and the cash in plastic bags, see thread and see below.
The trial is before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge P. Kevin Castel and Inner City Press is live tweeting it. See also Patreon here
And here the post arrest statement as so far put in to the jury, as uploaded to YouTube by Inner City Press, here. The case is US v. Diaz Morales, 15-cr-00379 (Castel).

In Honduras UN Whispered of Magdaleno Murder Now Refuses Press Questions Guterres Corrupts

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon, Thread Video
Honduras - The Source - The Root - etc
SDNY COURTHOUSE, Nov 5 – During the trial that convicted Tony Hernandez, the brother of Honduras' president Juan Orlando Hernandez (JOH), on all four counts of guns and narcotics trafficking and false statements, the drug ledgers of one Nery Orlando López Sanabria a/k/a Magdaleno were used by the SDNY prosecutors.
Here is an Inner City Press tweeted photo of notebook mentioning "JOH," in Spanish. Inner City Press has repeated asked the United Nations, in New York and Geneva, for comment. Now from November 2 through 5 the UN's "human rights" office in Honduras has refused to even confirm receipt.  Funding should be cut off to Guterres' UN - now he's getting Chapo's money. And, relatedly, refusing to answer Press questions about the release of Chapo's son, here.
A week after the Tony Hernandez guilty verdict in the SDNY court, Magdaleno was murdered in a supposedly maximum security prison in Santa Barbara, Honduras.
The video are very troubling [WARNING] including the guards letting the killers in, here.
But nothing had been emailed out to its press list, and nothing could be found on its website in Geneva - it turns out news it doesn't want anyone or at least not the drug funded dictators it answers to see it, it puts on obscure sub-sites, see below.
Office at UN: Room S-303, UN HQ, NY NY 10017."
Four days nothing. So did Bachelet, who is rarely at work, speak? By not answering to confirm or deny that this UN office spoke, Colville and Bachelet are complicit in the very "fake news" and propaganda they purport to denounce. They have allowed their unfettered prejudices (in Colville's case, all the way back to Zeid and the Office helping China to identify critics, for murder) and support of corrupt Guterres to bring them this low.
Now perhaps worse, we have found the UN- and now presumptively Chapo-funded UNOHR office in Honduras has been whispering on its website, which stayed entirely silent during and about the trial. The site telling has more hits for job-searches than its "news."
It's by a restaurant (not Denny's) - "Col Castaño Sur, Ave. Castaño Sur, House # 2911. References Former headquarters of the Embassy of Ecuador, next to Restaurante Loca Luna." Inner City Press  formally requested to be sent all of its "news" going forward, and for the publicly funded office to confirm receipt of this request, receiving from the Press which covered the Honduras narco trial every day from the SDNY court house. Three days later, no response at all this to - as Guterres and Bachelet corrupt the entire UN: "From: Matthew R. Lee Date: Sat, Nov 2, 2019 at 8:11 AM Subject: Formal Press request to be sent all statements by UNOHC about Honduras, its President and presumptive links to narco-traffickers, please immediately confirm receipt To:    Hello. Inner City Press closely covered the SDNY trial of Tony Hernandez, the brother of Honduras' president, and reported on the evidence including notebooks introduced showing President JOH taking money from narco-traffickers.     When I was sent a news report that the UN had spoken about the related killed of Magdaleno in ostensibly maximum security prison, I immediately asked UNOHC if it was true that the UN had spoken.   I have receipt no answer at all.    This is a formal request that your Office send Inner City Press, in real time, all of its statements on these topics.   Please immediately confirm receipt.  Thank you for your prompt attention. Matthew Russell Lee, Esq., Inner City Press"
We'll have more on this - it is how Guterres' UN operates, taking money from bribers, criminal and dictators, roughing up and banning the Press that asks, then using the blood money to whisper for no one. We'll continue on this.
Even if Bachelet and Colville belatedly respond, this is classic Guterres: prop up an abusive ruler then have a lower profile part of the UN mouth concern. Except here, it's not even clear that has happened. Impeachment needed.
Associated Press in Tegucigalpa produced a short story which does not mention that the video show the guard opening that red metal door, instead saying "Prison officials said Nery López Sanabria, also known as Magdaleno Meza Fúnez, was ambushed by other inmates in El Pozo prison on Saturday. His lawyer, Carlos Chajtur, blamed the Honduran government.  He was the alleged business partner of ex-congressman Antonio "Tony" Hernández, the president's younger brother, who was found guilty of drug trafficking in a New York jail earlier in October.   Nearly a dozen notebooks belonging to López Sanabria appeared as evidence in the trial." Ambush, yes - but facilitated by the authorities. We'll have more on this.
Speculation is that he was killed so as to not produce further evidence against President Juan Orlando Hernandez. Protesters calling for his resignation after the verdict have been tear gassed.  So what will the Office of US Attorney Geoffrey Berman and the wider US Justice Department do? More on Patreon here.
Video here. Three UN security vehicles, and even a publicly funded NYPD detective, "protecting" Guterres who already wastes untold public funds on security. Disgusting.   This is all the more the case given the spotting of "UN" vehicles carrying JOH's soldiers near Tegucigalpa here. Inner City Press has noted that the UN uses JOH's troops in Western Sahara.
