On Duo Charged with Bank Fraud US Wanted Conditions Met But Judge Orders Free Same Day by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 30 – There was a case the prosecutors later deemed high profile presented U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrates Court on July 30. Inner City Press was the only media there and live tweeted: a two-defendant case, Federal Defender for one, CJA for the other. They will apparently be presented together. The Assistant US Attorney has arrived, so it will be kicking off soon 3:14 pm Strange - the CJA representing the male co-defendant has been called into the robing room, with the AUSA and Pre-Trial Services. The female defendant, with her Federal Defender, remain at defense table. Maybe we'll find out why, shortly... There are three counts: bank fraud, aggravated identity theft, & "trafficking in stolen debit cards," which only the female defendant is charged with.  AUSA: We propose identical bail packages for both defendants. Going forward, we will be providing victim notices Federal Defender: Her mother is in court today, there is no reason to wait for release or to have GPS monitor. CJA: I am also opposed. My client was only brought here an hour ago so I couldn't contact his family. He has only driving infractions.  CJA: He lives with his parents on Long Island, they are both retired school teachers. AUSA: There is a two year mandatory minimum on the aggravated ID theft charge. There is a risk of flight. The male defendant worked in a bank branch and had returned there CJA: He has friends there. And the branches are in New York, nothing to do with risk of flight. Judge: I will release both today, limited to SDNY and EDNY, not Tennessee.
