As Juror Told of Drunken Victim Bounced by Peremptory NY Intent with Knife Walks Free by Matthew & Russell Lee, Patreon Substack 100 CENTRE ST, July 20 – A trial is starting in 100 Centre Street and may be over by the middle of next week, Justice Daniel P. Conviser told the first six jurors selected on July 20.   One prospective juror, questioned by the defense how she would react if she heard that the victim had been drunk, was interviewed in the judge's robing room, outside the presence of those in the courtroom including Inner City Press.    Upon their return, Justice Conviser recounted that the prospective juror had wanted to tell him, as a judge, about her own problems. He denied the ADA's challenge for cause, after the defense opposed it. So the prosecution had to burn one of its peremptory challenges.   Another woman who had mistakenly gone to the jury room on the 15th floor was told to come back directly to Justice Conviser's courtroom on July 21, to be interviewed with the next pool of jurors.    Those six selected were told to return on July 23 for opening statements in this rape case, and that they might get the case on Tuesday July 28 or the following day.  Fast justice in 100 Centre Street - sometimes.  Two stories above, Justice Beth Beller was presiding over jury deliberations in a trial for attempted assault of a police officer. Verdict was not reached by 5 pm; the jurors were told to return to a different courtroom on Tuesday. Justice Beller will be dealing with the grand jury.    Day's end in APAR1 on the first floor found a man charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree - a knife, with intent to use. It being considered a misdemeanor, there was not discussion of imposing any kind of bail. Release to the street, knife intent and all.
