Man Jailed on Rikers in October 2024 Was Convicted in SDNY Now Gets 68 Months

SDNY COURTHOUSE, March 16 รข€“ A man who had been detained on Riker's Island since October 2024 on gun charges was presented on April 1, 2025 before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang. Inner City Press was there, the only media in the SDNY Mag court. 

 The Federal Defender consented to detention while saying he was ask for a bail hearing on or before Friday.

The assigned District Judge Colleen McMahon had set a first appearance a month out, on May 1.

 The AUSA asked the Speedy Trial Act time be excluded - and the Federal Defender opposed. 

  Judge Wang agreed to exclude time. 

Nearly a year later, after being found guilty, Thompson on March 16, 2026 was sentenced to 68 months - but credit recommended for time in NYS custody since his arrest on October 19, 2024 for the same conduct that formed the basis of the Federal charges.
