Man Who Stole Checks from USPS Boxes and Sold Them Asks Non Carceral Sentence

SDNY COURTHOUSE, April 10 รข€“ A man charged with stealing from US Postal Service boxes is up for sentencing in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on April 14.

 The complaint had copies of photos of stolen checks that he sent, and offered for sale. He is asking for a "non-carceral sentence." Inner City Press is covering the case. 

 He pled guilty in May 2025.  His sentencing memo by the Federal Defender says that after an accident on a motor scooter, he was prescribed Percocet, a powerful opioid. Since October 2025 he has been employed as a cable and telecommunications installer for [REDACTED], the memo says / redacts.

 The case is USA v. Guzman, 1:25-cr-215 (Hellerstein).
