SDNY COURTHOUSE, April 17 â An indicted
hacker whose lawyers have said he hacked for Exxon was
quietly presented on Friday, April 3 in the U.S. District
Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrates
Court, which Inner City Press closely covers.
Inner City Press was first to report the extradition and
presentment.
Amit Forlit had been fighting extradition
from the UK, citing conditions in the Metropolitan
Detention Center in Brooklyn (whose current residents
include Nicholas Maduro and Luigi Mangione).
Forlit opposed any exclusion of time
under the Speedy Trial Act, and Chief Magistrate Judge
Sarah Netburn deferred on the issue to the District Judge
to whom the case has been assigned, Jesse Furman.

On April 17, Forlit was before Judge
Furman. He said discovery should be produced by May 18,
with defense motions due July 17, reply August 7 and next
proceeding August 13 at 2:30 pm.
Speedy Trial Act time
was excluded until then, with defense counsel saying that
she and prior counsel discuss pre-trial resolution with
the Government. (Afterward it seems such talks may be
limited to prior counsel. But the SDNY docket does not
list any other counsel. Perhaps UK counsel?)
The Assistant US Attorney said there are "several terabytes" of discovery, and in describing the alleged plot and US v. Ansari, 19-cr-610 which Inner City Press also covered, added that there are "individuals above Mr. Forlit I can get into."
Judge Furman asked if there will be any defendant added to the case, and the AUSA said cryptically, I am unable to comment on that.
