decrepit has the UN system
become under Antonio Guterres,
in this case due to Guterres?
Today's example is again from
the Office of the High
Commission for Human Rights,
to which Guterres appointed
his unqualified crony Volker
Turk more than two years ago.

Cronism permeates throughout OHCHR contracts and consultancies and Human Rights Council appointments (many suggested by Turk’s staff. Member states remain passive or try to place their nationals. It is known that former DHC Kate Gilmore (mis)used her influence to secure the appointment of her former boss Irene Khan as special rapporteur.When the HRC creates investigative bodies the secretariat posts are often given to Volker Turk’s favorites or their spouses. The list is long. This is a recurrent pattern of conflict of interest to which member states, the High Commissioner, Catherine Pollard, Martha Helena Lopes and OIOS have turned a blind eye. For example, the head of the group of experts on Nicaragua (married to Bachelet’s assistant), the special rapporteur on human rights defenders (married to the deputy head of OHCHR office in Panama), the SR on summary executions (married to OHCHR section chief), former SR on freedom of expression (married to current chief of UPR branch). The list of endogamic appointments continue and will continue for as long as member states do not hold Volker Turk accountable for transparent appointment processes but there is no hope Volker Turk, known for nepotism and favoritism will clean the house. Member states must stop turning a blind eye to corruption. The election of new SG will be a good opportunity to test the candidates’ commitment to integrity. Will this endogamic system change? Unlikely unless a new High Commissioner for Human Rights is appointed. Amb Waltz, the
ball is on your court." Fat chance. So far,
nothing from Mike Waltz,
previously seen skydiving in
France then on a lone Sunday
show on CBS, unannounced -
self-booked? He blithely
signed the UN Charter. July 4,
after selfies on the ships in
the harbor, how much did he
pay in US taxpayers' money for
the UN roof? Delays on FOIA.
Now, a lone Trade Not Aid
hashtag, unclear from where.
Meanwhile both Big Tony and
Amina junketed on April 15 to
the IMF which Inner City Press
is accredited to cover, and at
which it asked questions - but
not of Tony, as UNCTAD denied

event." The UN is dying, or
being killed off. There's a new

on June 19, 2025 - no answer
at all from Melissa Fleming,
Tel Mekel, Stephane Dujarric
for six months, then a denial
with no reason at all given.
