Postal Worker Changed with Stealing Treasury Checks Is Released on Recognizance in EDNY by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack EDNY COURTHOUSE, Aug 24 – A US Postal Service worker charged with conspiring with another to steal US Treasury checks was presented, arraigned and released on August 24 in the Eastern District of New York Magistrates Court. Inner City Press was there.    The defendant, with red-dyed hair and a "Juicy" jacket on, was brought out and sat beside her Federal Defender.   Magistrate Peggy Cross-Goldenberg, formerly a Federal Defender herself, in SDNY - asked in detail if the defendant had been offered anything to waive her rights under the Speedy Trial Act.   The EDNY prosecutor consented to release on recognizance - not unsecured bond, no co-signer. Judge Cross-Goldenberg translated this as, Your word is your bond. The defendant, with two supporters in the gallery, said she understood.   The case is assigned to District Judge Vitaliano, who will see the defendant on October 2 (pending change of date by the Federal Defender).   Before the postal case, Judge Cross-Goldenberg effectuated a change of counsel to the day's CJA lawyer, Mr. Lee, for a defendant changed with armed robbery.
