Man Charged with Armed Drug Dealing on Bronx Blocked Ordered Released Not to Block by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack SDNY COURTHOUSE, Aug 7 – A man charged with armed drug dealing had a bail fight on August 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrates Court. Inner City Press was there, the only media in the SDNY Mag court, and live tweeted: AUSA: We found the bag with crack, the gun, his DNA on the gun, and $732 in various denominations. He fled from law enforcement twice. During yesterday's arrest he said he would have fled, "I'm going to make you work for it." Federal Defender: No warrants AUSA: He proposes to live in a place with a woman who tried to help him by secreting his drugs in her pants. Federal Defender: NYS released him. He enrolled in the Fortune Society.  Judge: What is that? FD: An alternative to incarceration program Federal Defense: He works at the uncle's food truck, they set up the tent and serve. He's also worked in Hunts Point. Yes he was arrested in February in the car with the drugs, they're saying the woman tried to hide the drugs but she was not charged.  Judge: One of the charges was for resisting arrest Federal Defender: That's a misdemeanor in the NYS system Judge: The state system does not have the authority to detain someone based on danger, so I don't consider what they did, you're wasting your breath Judge: What if we keep him off the block he was dealing drugs on? FD: I think it's about one train stop away. Judge: Give me a moment [steps out, returns] I believe I can release him Judge: $100,000 unsecured bond, no guns, not to be on the block where the alleged drug dealing took place - Westchester between Beach and Lawrence Streets in The Bronx - not released where listed.
