SDNY Judge Pauley Outraged At BOP Reduction For Ziptie Lottery Robbery Avalo

SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 21 –   Martin Avalo pled guilty in a 2016 multi-defendant case about robbing a lottery operation. He was the muscle, over 300 pounds, smothering people. Now he is seeking compassionate release.
On July 21 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge William H. Pauley III held a proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.
Judge Pauley expressed outrage. The docket reflects that Avalo carjacked Jose Salcedo and went and ziptied the occupants of his apartment. Before that, in a case before SDNY Judge Andrew L. Carter, Avalo pled guilty to pharmacy burglaries.
But the US Bureau of Prisons' "recalculation has resulted in Avalo receiving a windfall reduction of his sentence by more than two years." Judge Pauley inveighed against it on July 21.
The case is USA v. Avalo et al., 16-cr-108 (Pauley)
