Substack UN GATE, June 27
- The UN Security Council
presidency for July is being
taken over by the Democratic
Republic of the Congo - while
Inner City Press remains
banned from the UN, despite
its June 19, 2025 application. On June
27, as DRC played Uzbekistan,
Inner City Press wrote to the
DRC mission seeking access to
any July 1 "press" conference and
for the rest of the
month: Hello.
This is a
timely request
that you allow
Inner City
Press to enter
and cover,
and/or provide
the
WebEx
pass code(s)
to access
DRC's UNSC
Presidency
press
briefings by
PR Mukongo
including
presumably on
July 1, 2026,
and for the
rest of the
months.
I have
questions to
ask on what
you will do
this month
about
Venezuela,
Iran, Gaza,
UNRWA and
Sudan,
Ukraine,
Ethiopia,
Cameroon,
Yemen and
Libya -
and on ongoing
cases of
sexual abuse
and
exploitation
by UN
peacekeepers,
and Missions'
abuses in NYC,
on many of
which Inner
City Press
first reported... [Inner
City
Press has been
the DRC
including
Goma; it has
reported on UN
Peacekeepers' rape
of Congolese,
and foisting
of past-expiration
mutitions that
killed
Congolese.] Given
DRC's citation
to the rule of
law and UNSC
transparency
and
credibility,
as well as
neutrality,
you should
ensure due
process (and
access) for
Press covering
the UN. Inner
CIty Press
applied to
MALU with a
letter on June
19, 2025 to
which MALU
responded six
months later,
denying it
without any
reason being
given. I
immediately
wrote to MALU,
on January 12,
still without
answer. There
is one email
address in
the UN Blue
Book, another
on the DRC
website - the
UNCA
website
doesn't even
have a
photograph. And the
email on the
DRC Mission's
website - is
full, and bounced the
request: <missionrdc.onu.ny@diplomatie.gouv.cd>:

Not an
auspicious
start for UNSC
president. But in the
World Cup DRC
fought its way
in, over Jamaica,
and now out of
the group
stage. They
play England on
July 1, as
they take over
the UNSC.
Mail box still full
and Press still
banned? Inner City
Press on June 19, 2025 applied
to the UN for access, as it
gives 100s, to cover the UNGA
week. Inner City Press has a
NYC Press Pass and writes
about the UN. Only in January
2026 a cursory denial with no
reason given. Watch this
site.
