COURTHOUSE,
June 29 รข For stabbing a man
to death in the middle of a
Washington Heights street in
2023, Ezequiel Mendoza was
allowed to plead down to
manslaughter on June 29 in 100
Centre Street. Inner City
Press was there. Mendoza
also pled to knife-point
robbery of a bicycle, which
was his mode of transport
after the murder to the
hospital to treat his cut
hand. His sentence
was set by Justice Curtis J.
Farber for July
27. Next
Justice Farber heard directly
from a defendant charged with
third degree burglary. After
her attorney said she has
interviewed with the Fortune
Society, he audibly advised
her not to speak for herself.
But she did,
telling Justice Farber her
story of homelessness and
sickness and saying she was
sorry for what she had
done. The defense
lawyer cut in to say she was
not yet known to have done
anything. She concluded, Okay,
I don't know anything. Then the
courtroom became sealed for
another case - mysteries of
100 Centre Street.
