SDNY COURTROOM, Feb 15 – In the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on February 15, a detention or release proceeding was held by Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave on a defendant previously convicted of wire fraud and now charged with Violations of Supervised Release.

Inner City Press covers the Magistrates Court, sometimes alone in the gallery, as it was on February 15.  Defendant John "Jay" Taylor was brought in. His Criminal Justice Act lawyer said no bond package was ready, so he was detained on consent. The AUSA said the Chief Judge has set a proceeding for March 2.

The previous conviction was for scamming women he met on Match.com, telling them he was a businessman from North Dakota.

The case is US v. Taylor, 17-cr-1 (Swain / Cave)

At the end of the proceeding there was an appointment of counsel for Serenity Butler, who does not have a listed case in SDNY but was in detention, on a detainer the AUSA would have to remove, it was said.
