SDNY COURTHOUSE, March 3 â An actress with a ticket to travel from New York
City to Montreal in August 2025 by bus has sued Greyhound
Lines and its driver for assault, defamation and
negligence, among nine counts.
On March 3 U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New York Judge John G. Koeltl
held a conference on Greyhound's intention to file a
motion to dismiss. Inner City Press covered
it.
Counsel to Greyhound bemoaned that
after its motion, the plaintiff can file an amended
complaint. Judge Koeltl said to raise it to the Second
Circuit.
The actor, Ms. Eduina Haxhirai a/k/a Edwina
Rai, recounts how she attended the John Jay College of
Criminal Justice, then the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.
Her Rotten Tomatoes credits include The Wedding Trip
(2021) and Sinister Cover-up (2023).
On the fateful day, she "was
traveling to Montreal to fulfill work commitments in
Canada." She says she asked the driver if the bus was
going to Montreal - and he shouted at her and kicked the
luggage out of her hand. She began to film him, she says.
She called the police - but he told
them she assault her and she was arrested, later
released.
Her counsel also does criminal
defense in SDNY; this is the first of his civil cases that
Inner City Press is covering.
The case is Haxhirai v. Greyhound Lines, Inc., et al., 1:25-cv-9897 (Koeltl)
