CENTRE ST,
June 18 รข A man charged with
stealing two shirts from
Nordstrom was brought
handcuffed into 100 Centre
Street on June 18. Before him,
defendant after defendant had
been ordered released. But not
Mister Nordstrom. The
prosecutor emphasized this
defendant's nine felony
convictions, 41 misdemeanor
convictions, 11 failures to
appear and five parole
revocations. He also, it
emerged, stole hair rollers
from Marshals. The
defense requested supervised
release, noting his age - 62 -
and mental health as well as
cardiac issues. Detention, she
said, would throw into
jeopardy his supportive
housing. He is indigent and
cannot pay any bail, she
concluded. The judge,
however, set $5000 bail. This
defendant was taken back into
the holding cell.
Previously, tweeted: defendant
charged with felony burglary.
Prosecutor asks for $30,000
cash bail - says in an SRO
building, he kicked in a door
and hit the resident in the
face twice with a hard
aluminum can. Defense: Release
him. Judge: OK. Two
defendants charged with
trademark violations on 33rd
Street and Seventh Avenue -
that is, right next to Madison
Square Garden - though brought
in cuffed left quickly with
Adjourned Contemplating
Dismissals. James Dolan was
nowhere to be seen. Then,
defendant charged with
punching intimate partner in
the face, breaking her jaw.
She cannot eat or drink
without a straw for now.
Prosecutor wants order of
protection for "sanctity of
the investigation." Defense: No
objection to order of
protection. Judge: No texts. Panhandler
enters Defense: He
was in Part F yesterday. It
looks like that case is going
to be dismissed. He scored 20
out of 25. He made 14 out of
14 appointments.
Prosecutor: Maybe he's a New
Yorker - but he has charges in
NJ (2020) and Ohio (2021).
Maybe he was visiting
Prosecutor: He also has a
cycle in Florida. Judge: CASES?
CASES: He has made 14 out of
14 appointments. We recommend
he be released on Tier
1. Judge: This is a bail
qualifying offense. But he has
a job. He appears in court. I
do not think bail is
necessary. But he
found bail necessary for
Mister Nordstrom. And so it goes,
in 100 Centre Street.
