Staff expectations are low because the bar is low. Four months before completing his term Volker Turk has ruined OHCHR, turned it irrelevant and brought it to bankruptcy by wasting money. Volker Turk is mocked by his meditation room, his academic platitudes, his messages about peace, love and bicycles, his fake feminism ,and his carefully calculated silences about certain countries.  The fish stinks from the head, so does OHCHR. Awa Dabo will have to prove her integrity by confronting the Kleptocratic culture in OHCHR, corrupt managers like Kim Taylor and Maarit Kohonen, pedantic egos like Peggy Hicks, favorites like Matthias Behnke, Michael Camilleri, Francesco Motta or Scott Campbell, a cosmetic and irrelevant Chief of staff like Veronica Birga. The list is long. Will she listen to whistleblowers? Will she continue the practice of firing young staff (mainly women) to protect the fat privileges of  those who do not want OHCHR to change? Will she oppose exposing human rights defenders to reprisals? Member states wonder how Guterres allowed a new deputy High Commissioner when, in theory, Volker Turk must leave in October. Late in the game appointment or quiet extension? AmbWaltz, EU must look carefully inside OHCHR.  Maybe member states are ready to tolerate a corrupt OHCHR in return for an irrelevant OHCHR. Sad times Amb Waltz, the ball is on your court." Fat chance.  So far, nothing from Mike Waltz.
