UNODC Corruption As Ghada Waly Remote Work Hit as Inner City Press Reapplies to Enter

UN GATE, Sept 15 –  How corrupt and decrepit has the UN system become under Antonio Guterres, in this case due to Guterres? Today's example is again from the Office of the High Commission for Human Rights, to which Guterres appointed his unqualified Austrian crony Volker Turk more than two years ago.

Now in Vienna, the head of UNODC is out - staff sent Inner City Press more:

"There are hopes that Ghada Waly’s vacation by the sea, funded by the tax payers of the world, may come to an end soon. The US Ambassador to the UN in New York has written a letter to Secretary General Guterres, dated 10 September 2025 [Inner City Press has been informed not by USUN but by staff] to express Washington’s “concerns about the current remote work arrangements for Ms Ghada Waly”, as they “believe that leaving UNOV without in-person leadership” until late November, when Ghada Waly is expected to leave, “is unwise”.

Ambassador Shea also notes that the US "take seriously their responsibility to the US tax payers, whose generosity support s the UN but which we feel the UN system often takes for granted". She finally recommends that, until a new Director General is appointed, the current UNOV/UNODC Director for Management “be designated as acting Head” of UNOV/UNODC.

 Ghada Waly’s discrediting is now complete. ...  This is what UNOV/UNODC has become under Ghana Waly’s regime. Staff hope that a new Director General will be appointed before the end of the year: will he or she have the will to put a remedy to this outrage and restore the rule of law in the organization? "

Guterres is the kingpin of the corruption. Turk as a staffer on Guterres' 38th floor did nothing when his boss Guterres had the critical Press roughed up and thrown out. There has been no due process since, not even a response to Guterres' Melissa Fleming to a pro bono inquiry for Inner City Press from the law firm Quinn Emanuel.
