Bystander Shot on East Tremont in The Bronx Testifies Before Defendant Gets 10 Years

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Sept 22 – Terry Brooks was in a deli and smoke shop on East Tremont Avenue in the Bronx on August 21, 2024 when a man in a baseball cap bumped into him.

Minutes later he fired a ghost gun at the man, missing him and hitting a bystander, a woman.    On September 22, 2025 Brooks was up for sentencing before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Margaret M. Garnett. Inner City Press was there, the only media - only person - in the courtroom gallery.

But on the phone was the victim, describing her surgeries and fear of going outside. She stayed on the line when Brooks offered an apology - then got sentenced to ten years in prison, with Otisville requested.

The case is USA v. Brooks, 1:25-cr-73 (Garnett)
