SDNY COURTHOUSE, March 1 – Sean Gambrell is Defendant 13 in a multi-defendant gang case; he has been in detention for 43 months.

On March 1, 2023 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge George B. Daniels held his sentencing. Inner City Press was there, the only media in the courtroom, along with two of Gambrell's aunts.

Gambrell spoke for himself, how his mother moved him to Flint, Michigan at age 8, through a series of shelters.

When he returned to New York City, his grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. Soon Gambrell was in a gang.

His lawyer asked for time served.

But Judge Daniels said the crimes were series, and imposed a sentence of 60 months - which is to say, 17 more months.

The case is US v. Goodman, et al., 20-cr-57 (Daniels)
