Wolf of Airbnb Pleads Guilty in 46 Month Deal As Expecting Baby Aug 7, Sentencing October

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, June 26 – The self proclaimed Wolf of Airbnb Konrad Bicher pled guilty on June 26, to a deal of 46 to 57 months and nearly $2 million in both forfeiture and restitution.

The change of plea was before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave, whose week on duty in the SDNY Magistrates Court Inner City Press is covering. From the transcript:

Q: Did you attend any college?

Bicher: No... I engaged in a scheme to use my real estate companies to fraudulently obtain funds by entering into these lease agreements for residential units in Manhattan... and making false statements to obtain loans secured by the US Government

Defense counsel: Mr. Bicher and his wife are expecting a baby August 7th.

Court: We're looking at the end of October [for sentencing]

The case is US v. Bicher, 22-cr-589 (Schofield / Cave)

Also June 26 before Judge Cave, a man arrested for stealing a US Postal Service key and mail was detained, apparently for one night.

The Assistant US Attorney told Judge Cave that the defendant had 91 previous arrested, and might be picked up on a warrant by NYPD if ordered released. Inner City Press was there, the only media in the SDNY Mag Court.

The Federal Defender said detention was not needed, that the defendant's brother in Midtown would be willing to put him up. (His girlfriend, the Defender said, died on June 23).

Judge Cave said one night of detention would be needed, to get the brother, shelter or drug treatment arrangements in place. She asked for an update by June 27; she will cover the Magistrates Court all week.

The case is US v. Yancy, 23-mj-5072 (Cave)

Man Who Got 17 Years For Ruining Girl's Life Argues His Lawyer Swallowed US Narrative

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, June 26 –   Hassan Khan was sentenced to 17 years in Federal prison for grooming an elevent year old girl and having sex with her, "ruining her life," as the judge put it at sentencing.

On June 26, his habeus corpus petition was the subject of an oral argument before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Jennifer E. Willis. Inner City Press was there, the only media in this SDNY courtroom. Thread:

Khan's parents are the the gallery, with only Inner City Press. Khan, in prison, is on the phone. The attack is on Khan's counsel at sentencing, Greco, whose strategy is called bizarre.

Judge: Wasn't he just trying to fully accept responsibility? There was a psycho-sexual expert. Are you saying two were required?

Khan's Counsel: He only consulted the expert in the plea bargaining phase- and Judge Rakoff called the expert into question. Greco never tried to explain Khan's conduct.

Khan's counsel: Greco simply let stand the prosecutor's narrative. The victim's self-cutting may not have been attributable to Mr. Khan

Judge: We're talking about grooming that began at age 11. Could the impacts really be questioned?

Counsel: The victim said she heard voices. It seems more organic. Greco did not question it; he did not channel the mind of an advocate.

Counsel: Sure, Greco made a sentencing video - but it made Khan look privileged, with a wonderful family. He phoned it in. Judge: Mr Khan got a below guidelines sentence.

AUSA Rossmiller: This is Monday morning quarterbacking. It was smart for Mr Greco to not try to justify the crime based on cultural differences and upbringing. Judge: Explaining the conduct is the norm.

AUSA: Greco did say that Khan was in love with the victim   Inner City Press will report the ruling when it comes.

The case is Khan v. United States of America, 20-cv-945 (Rakoff / Willis)

In Epstein Victims Case JPM Chase Supports Settlement Not Trial but USVI Raises Issues

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Maxwell book

SDNY COURTHOUSE, June 26 – J.P. Morgan Chase and Deutsche Bank were sued for their enabling of Jeffrey Epstein, in lawsuits filed on Thanksgiving 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, where Inner City Press found them in the docket.

Late on May 17, 2023, plaintiffs' lawyer David Boies selectively announced a $75 million settlement with Deutsche Bank. Nothing was filed in the docket. But the pressure on JPM Chase, and its CEO Dimon, grew.

On June 12, 2023, again while nothing in the docket, JPMorgan Chase said it had reached a settlement in a class action lawsuit with victims of Jeffrey Epstein. "The parties believe this settlement is in the best interests of all parties, especially the survivors who were the victims of Epstein’s terrible abuse, the bank said in a statement. Inner City Press asked, on June 12, will the USVI too fold their tent?

The answer seems to remain "No." On June 26, while JPM Chase told Judge Rakoff that the proposed settlement would not release claims of sovereigns, counsel for the USVI pointed to a provision of the proposed settlement.

Judge Rakoff said it was a run-on sentence a la William Faulkner, but that the issue should be conferred about and addressed. Inner City Press live tweeted, thread here:

OK - now at Epstein victims' preliminary fairness hearing on settlement with JPM Chase. USVI is concerned it would release claims of sovereigns

Judge Rakoff: It seems this sentence was written by William Faulkner, it runs on. But this could be fixed.

JPM Chase: We do say, To the extent permitted by law... USVI: If we have a recovery, the class members couldn't collect. Judge: The settlements are large

USVI: Not all of the 250 or 300 victims will file...

On May 26, Judge Rakoff held oral arguments on class certification, noting that Dimon's deposition was taking place at that time. Inner City Press was there, thread here and below.

On May 31, Inner City Press published the Dimon deposition, on Patreon here.

On June 5, Judge Rakoff's chambers docketed this, from June 2: "Minute Entry for proceedings held before Judge Jed S. Rakoff: Telephone Conference held on 6/2/2023, without transcription or recording. Counsel for Jane Doe, the U.S. Virgin Islands, JP Morgan Chase, and Mr. Staley were present. Mr. Staleys unopposed application for JP Morgan to disclose its correspondence with six third parties in connection with its subpoenas to those third parties is granted. JP Morgans application for Jane Doe to make corresponding disclosures of correspondence relating to third party subpoenas to the same parties is denied, without prejudice to JP Morgans renewing the request should it be able to show a particularized need taking into account the current status of discovery. Mr. Staleys request for a computation of the damages JP Morgan intends to assert against Mr. Staley in the form of its costs of defending the actions by Jane Doe and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as for JP Morgan to make available the documents on which any such computation is based, is granted, subject to appropriate withholdings for privilege. JP Morgan is directed to make such production by EOD on Friday, June 16. This production should be made to Mr. Staley only, and any confidentiality designation made in connection with this production shall suffice to prohibit disclosure to Jane Doe and the U.S. Virgin Islands."

More on Substack here.

On June 6, Judge Rakoff issued a revised schedule: "Third-Party Defendant James Edward Staley's Answer to JP Morgan's Complaint must be filed by June 7, 2023. Post-discovery judgment motions (except as respecting third-party claims) due by 8/15/2023. Responses due by 8/31/2023 Replies due by 9/7/2023. Deposition due by 8/8/2023. Fact Discovery (including deposition of fact witnesses) due by 7/18/2023. Expert Discovery due by 8/8/2023. Final Pretrial Conference, as well as oral argument, set for 7/28/2023 at 02:00 PM before Judge Jed S. Rakoff. Ready for Trial by 10/23/2023. Oral Argument set for 9/14/2023 at 04:00 PM before Judge Jed S. Rakoff. (Signed by Judge Jed S. Rakoff on 6/6/2023)

On June 7, 2023, Staley filed his answer, including that "the incidents in question... were caused by the superseding and intervening acts of parties over whom Mr. Staley had no right of control."

On May 19, Jes Staley's lawyer argued before Judge Jed S. Rakoff to dismiss JPM Chase's claim against him; Chase opposed. Inner City Press was there, live tweeted thread here and below.

Judge Rakoff: I agree Congressional silence is not a basis for reaching a definitive conclusion. They are talkative.. I am joking

JPM's lawyer: Even if there was no contribution, supplemental jurisdiction, they can stay in - they have already been present at depositions. It's judicial economy. Judge Rakoff: I've heard what I need.

Judge Rakoff: I'll get you at least a bottom line opinion by the end of this month. Mr Staley should know by May 31. Anything else? No? If you would clear out, I have a 4 pm matter.

The JPM Chase complaint is on Patreon, here.

On March 20, 2023 Judge Jed S. Rakoff in a bottom line order dismissed some but not all claims, in the Epstein-related cases against JPMC and Deutsche Bank.

Inner City Press put the order on its DocumentCloud here.

On April 28, a motion seeking class certification of Epstein-related claims against JPMC was filed; filing on Patreon here.

On May
8, the US Virgin Islands filed with Judge Rakoff to strike JPM Chase's equitable defenses, including tis "fault-shifting" defense, arguing that "it is well established within the Second Circuit and elsewhere that government plaintiffs suing to vindicate public rights are not subject to equitable defenses that may be invoked against private plaintiffs." Man Arraigned for Inwood Hate Crime Murder Appeared Beating Vet in Trump Casino in 2010

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, June 26 – A murder in Inwood in Upper Manhattan on May 30 gave rise to an arraignment for a hate crime on June 26 in lower Manhattan. Inner City Press was there.

Maximito Polanco was stubbed more than 40 times inside the Arden Street apartment he shared with Hosameldin Ismail, 34, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

On June 26 Inner City Press went to 111 Centre Street, where Hosameldin Ismail was brought into the courtroom and pled not guilty. Assistant District Attorney Kendall described the decedent being partial decapitated, and Ismael admitting, on NYPD body cam video, that he did it because Polanco is or was Latino.

During the proceeding, Ismael turned to look out at the courtroom gallery, where barely a dozen people sat, including two photographers in the front of the courtroom.

Filings running through August 24, then September 12.

Inner City Press' research finds a 2010 crime at a Trump casino in Atlantic City: "22-year-old Hosameldin Ismail was caught on camera at Trump Plaza allegedly beating and robbing a disabled a 61-year-old Vietnam veteran, police said."

The ages line up. After the arraignment:

D.A. BRAGG ANNOUNCES HATE CRIME MURDER INDICTMENT FOR BRUTAL STABBING IN INWOOD  Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. today announced the indictment of HOSAMELDIN ISMAIL, 34, for stabbing his 55-year-old roommate Maximito Polanco-Parra 47 times in an anti-Hispanic attack, killing him.

ISMAIL is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with two counts of Murder in the Second Degree as a Hate Crime and one count of Murder in the Second Degree.

“As alleged, Maximito Polanco-Parra’s was blatantly targeted because of his race in this jarring, violent attack,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I join the family and friends of Mr. Polanco-Parra in mourning the loss of their loved one.”

According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, ISMAIL had been renting a room in the same apartment shared by Mr. Polanco-Parra and others for approximately one month. On May 30, 2023, at approximately 4 p.m., Mr. Polanco-Parra returned home to the Inwood apartment on Arden Street between Nagle and Sherman Avenues.

A few minutes later, ISMAIL, unprovoked, came from behind and stabbed Mr. Polanco-Parra 47 times in his head, neck, and chest.  ISMAIL attempted to flee but was apprehended by NYPD officers outside the apartment building. Officers recovered several kitchen knives from ISMAIL.

Paramedics responded and Mr. Polanco-Parra was pronounced dead at the scene.

As Guterres Whispers on Wagner Leak from UN Rape in War Office Shows Inaction on Abuse

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

Exclusive, June 25 – UN peacekeepers' rapes of those they are supposed to protect have escalated under current Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

His spokesman Stephane Dujarric refuses to answer Inner City Press questions about it, for example on June 8, 2023, see below.

Meanwhile on June 25, in belated whispered reaction to events in Russia, Dujarric and/or Farhan Haq sent only a subset of subservient correspondents this: "The Secretary-General has been following with concern the developments in the Russian Federation. He is aware of the latest reports regarding steps to de-escalate tensions. He urges all concerned to continue to act responsibly and with a view to avoid further tensions." Pablum for his pals - while nothing on the UN's website.

Meanwhile the UN's "Sexual Violence on Conflict" office, which does nothing about the UN peacekeepers' sexual abuse of those they are ostensibly protecting, is caught on a scandal triggered by a Pramilla Patten interview. From the case sibmitted to UN's flaccid internal oversight, among the leaks to Inner City Press has been Patten's internal email about Ukraine, which we've put online here.

It was sent to Geraldine Boezio, Chloé Marnay-Baszanger, Brit-o-phile Letitia Anderson, Tonderai Chikuhwa, Bernadette Sene and filmmaker Nancee Oku Bright. What have these people done about UN rapes - and Guterres' ban on the Press that asks? Pending application to re-enter, here.

Inner City Press' still unanswered question: "June 8-1: Immediately provide all if-asked information on the new UN sex abused cases cynically data dumped June 7 at 12:02 pm, involving UN "peacekeepers" from South Africa, Malawi and Guatemala including child rape, what if anything has been done for the victims - and why while Ban Ki-moon provided Press with such info, each of you has refused, UN rape after UN rape."

These are crimes, a systematic trafficking of sex offenders to failed states where they continue their abuse - and Guterres is at the top of the pyramid, complicit.

UN Police Yenigun Ankara Junkets Covered Up by LaCroix and SG Guterres Who Bans Press

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon

UN GATE, June 24 – How corrupt is today's UN under Antonio Guterres?

Well, its own staff are so afraid of retaliation by Guterres that their only outlet, they say, is to Inner City Press which itself has been banned from the UN by Guterres, with no due process and December 3, 2022 appeal ignored.

But we continue.  February's story, follow up below:

"Dear Matthew Russsell Lee / Inner City Press:  We are from the Police Division of the United Nations. We come to you as our last resort.

Since March 2022, the Investigations Division of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) has opened an investigation against Mr. Ata Yenigun, Chief of the Selection and Recruitment Section of the UN Police Division, Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI), Department of Peace Operations (DPO).

The investigation concerned numerous reported incidents of serious discrimination, abuses of authority, cases of harassment and for creating an hostile environment to work.

Mr. Yenigun bullies us in his own team but not only. He does the same to the entire staff of the Police Division. And, he has done so for many years. He has always been protected. He was particularly protected to not say that he was even empowered by the former Police Adviser Mr. Luis Carrilho during his entire time as Police Adviser with the support of ASG Zouev.

...one year later nothing has been done and Mr. Yenigun continues to terrorize the staff of the Police Division. Mr. Yenigun has a strong bias against women and other minorities.

it is not the first time DPO (USG Lacroix is also fully aware) and OROLSI let managers bullying their staff. In the past the Chief of UNMAS was able to do the same for years also…   [Inner City Press reported on that, before being roughed up and thrown out of the UN by Guterres' UN Security, which now ignored the written appeal directed by UN PGA Spokesperson Paulina Kubiak).

we are seriously afraid of retaliations.   Please help us by publishing our story.

Done. This on April 17, this:

Hi, Matthew-  I read this article and can confirm everything in it. I’ve got good internal sources at UNPOL.    You might also want to look into the corruption of Mr. ATA, how he favorites certain countries, and how Turkish police officers often end up in key positions.    Further you might want to look into the process of the new Police Adviser. A man who was among the least qualified candidates (with references to his previous duty station in SPC Brindisi, according to sources very close to Ms. Ann Mari Orler. He was Ata’s choice in a weird process where PD (read: Ata) is responsible for screening (read: hiring) his new boss. And he always pick a candidate he don’t need to fear.    The hiring process made an unusual jump, when it went from UN PD and straight to USG, without clearance from ASG Zoev’s office.    It can also be mentioned that the Police Advisor is rarely wearing uniform, as he is not entitled to do it after he was suspended from the Pakistan police due to allegations of Human Rights violations. This is information well known to Mr. Ata.    At last you might want to look into his ridiculous travel expenses and how he is tricking with the DSA, how he is representing Police Division absolutely everywhere all year round. It is well known in PD SRS that he significantly increased his travels after one of his daughters changed to a private school."

In June 2023, more: "Dear Matthew,  Following your articles of 14 February and 17 April regarding the abuses of authority and corruption by Ata Yenigun, I have some additional information to offer.

The investigations of the OIOS have still not been completed after 15 months. Some would say that Mr. Yenigun is benefitting from protection from the highest levels of the UN.

Regarding his travels, it is well known that:  - in 2021,  he traveled almost once a month, accumulating a total of hundred days out of the office and organized 2 trips in Ankara (where he is from):

one trip in July for almost a month and one in September for 2 weeks paid by the UN.

- in 2022, he traveled many times including again 2 trips to Ankara for several weeks and again a total of close to a hundred days out of the office.  -

in 2023, he has already traveled 5 times in 6 months and spent a total of 7 weeks out of the office.

All this information is easily accessible by anyone in the UN. It should be easy to exert control over this situation but nobody seems to be interested to hold him accountable for anything."

We are still asking Guterres and his spokespeople Stephane Dujarric and Melissa Fleming - and have applied to re-enter and ask in person.

Watch this site.

Sam Bankman-Fried Speedier Trial than Guo Blues by Matthew Russell Lee, ...
