COURTHOUSE,
June 2รขA man from El Salvador
in ICE detention in the Orange
County Jail since May 26 filed
a habeas corpus petition in
the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York, where Inner City Press
found it. The
petition says that he had
broken away from the MS-19
gang but then was arrested
with a firearm. Now he faces
removal; he seeks to be
released. The case
was assigned on June 2 to
Judge John P. Cronan, who
ordered an answer by June 12. The case is
Portillo v. Arteta, et al.,
1:26-cv-4627 (Cronan)
