100 CENTRE STREET, Aug 18 – A man from China studying at Columbia University in New York City was charged with "forcible touching - intimate parts" and sexual abuse in the third degree.
On August 18, after pleading guilty to the first charge, he was scheduled to appear in the 100 Centre Street courthouse, in the Part A courtroom. Inner City Press was there.
But, the judge said, his failure to appear would be excused. She cited "collateral consequences;" his student visa and the US Department of State were mentioned, as well as his trip to China.
On LinkedIn, he is still listed as a Columbia student; his interests listed online include cryptocurrency, high frequency trading - and badminton.
The next court date, with or without collateral consequences, is September 3...
