Man Who Went to Somalia to Join ISIS in 2015 Is Presented and Detained in 2014 in SDNY

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 16 – A man charged in 2018 with going to Somalia to join ISIS was presented and detained after extradition on February 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Inner City Press was the only media there:

OK - now at presentment of Hussein Abdi - he was extradited in yesterday, ISIS-support case is date 2018. 

AUSA: The Federal Defender is consenting to detention

 Judge: True?

Federal  Defender: Yes. And I am submitting a medical order.

DOJ says HARAFA HUSSEIN ABDI with providing and conspiring to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (“ISIS”), and receiving and conspiring to receive military-type training from ISIS.  ABDI, a U.S. citizen, was recently taken into custody overseas and was transported to the United States yesterday, February 15, 2024.

 The case is US v. Abdi, 18-mj-159 (Figueredo)
