SDNY COURTHOUSE, May 2 – West Publishing's FindLaw division has sued former employees for, it says, leaving and using non-public information to steal clients for their new business, RizeUp Media.

On May 2, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Paul A. Engelmayer held a proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

West's lawyer said one of the former employees, upon receiving a cease and desist letter from West, quit RizeUp. Judge Engelmayer asked pointedly if this was only a civil case.

But counsel for RizeUp said the information taken wasn't non-public, and that the number of clients who moved was known, and limited.

Still West wants a preliminary injunction, and prepares for a June 7 hearing.

The case is West Publishing Corporation v. Williams, et al., 22-cv-2383 (Engelmayer)
