SDNY COURTHOUSE, Jan 25 –  Inessa Muchnik was arrested at 6 am on November 14, 2019 and in the afternoon was presented in Magistrates Court in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. She had, in the gallery along with Inner City Press, a number of supporters.

Muchnik was charged with defrauding health insurance companies by charging them for expensive "durable medical equipment" but giving out only lower-priced items.

She began by buying Daily Medical Supply in 2014; she ran her money through Bank of America. The charging document referred darkly to an Individual-1, on which we said, We will have more.

On January 25, Muchnik appeared before SDNY Judge Laura Taylor Swain, and pleaded guilty. But no sentencing date was set, merely a control date in six months to allow for cooperation. This was said in open court; then the AUSA said he had moved, not in the docket, to seal the transcript. But it was and is in open court.

The case is US v. Muchnik, 19-mj-10713 (Swain).
