SDNY COURTHOUSE, May 6 – On Monday the Trump trial began with Justice Merchan threatening to jail Trump for violations of his gag order.
He said 10 violations were enough and that among his job is protecting the dignity of the court.
Then the first witness was called: Jeff McConney, now retired Trump Organization controller.
Trump's lawyer Emil Bove objected without being sustained to the entry into evidence of several financial records, and a Government Ethics Office form.
Trump filed a disclosure that he paid a reimbursement to Michael Cohen in 2017.
By lunch, Bove would emphasize that Trump make the disclose, that McConney rarely spoke with Trump, and that the accounting software used in the Trump Organization was antiquated and so, by implication, legal expenses could mean many different things.
