EDNY COURTHOUSE, August 12v– What is it with the Eastern District of New York prosecutors, or at least their press office?
On August 12, during a guilty plea proceeding by Patrick Tidalgo on one count each of narcotics and money laundering, EDNY Assistant US Attorney Andrew David Wang was asked about the Sentencing Guidelines.
He said, at least candid, that he was not sure. Inner City Press, covering the proceeding, tweeted: OK - now an EDNY guilty plea (to 5 kilos of coke & money laundering). AUSA Andrew Wang says sentencing guideline on the 1st is 70 - 97 months but that he's not sure how the money laundering guideline impacts that. It'd be nice if @EDNYnews @Marzullij could answer."
But he did not. In fact, as the Court was informed, this spokesman last told Inner City Press it can only get answers from the Office of Breon Peace in press releases on the EDNY website. But this whole week, there have only been two press releases, none on this.
So what are the Guidelines? Not only the Sentencing Guidelines on this defendant, but for DOJ Public Information Officers?
This particular case is US v. Tidalgo, 19-cr-374
Ongoing disclosure: This report was prepared without any assistance or answers from Eastern District of New York US Attorney's Office spokesman John Marzulli, ex-Daily News, who without hearing or ruling on an August 9 appeal on August 8, 2022 decreed that said "his" / EDNY's publicly-funded information will henceforth go to some (including outside of New York) but not others, or other, like NYC-based Inner City Press. As noted, we have requested reconsideration. We'll have more on this.
