SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 14 – Huggins Orelien is on trial for the gun-point robbery of an escort in a Bronx hotel back on December 4, 2019. He is in custody.

On July 13, 2022 his jury trial proceeded before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Richard M. Berman. Inner City Press went and covered it, the only media in the courtroom gallery.

The victim, identified as Ms. Rivera, was on the stand, testifying on direct how she advertised on "City Guide" and had a separate cell phone for client calls and, when questioned, about her preferences.

She previewed the video the jury will see, how distressed she was when she called the hotel desk.

She said she was afraid of calling the police, thinking they would arrest her for prostitution.

The defense has moved to keep out expert testimony about where his cell phone was, citing Daubert, GE v. Joyner, and Kuhmo Tire.

On July 14, Judge Berman read his legal instructions to the jurors, including concerning Count 3, brandishing of firearm. He cited the testimony of the cell site expert, and another on DNA.

The case is US v. Orelien, 20-cr-636 (Berman)
