For Gozi Virus Hack Paunescu Gets 3 Years Without Colombia Jail Time Subtracted

SDNY COURTHOUSE, June 12 – Mihai Paunescu was indicted for the Gozi virus hack whose impacts extended to US NASA.

  On June 12, 2023, U.S. District Court of for the Southern District Judge Lorna G. Schofield imposed sentencing on Paunescu, clad in the orange prison jumpsuit of the Westchester County Department of Corrections. Inner City Press was there. 

 Judge Schofield cited the ligher sentences on his co-conspirators, one of whom was she described as having cooperated with the Government.

While Probation recommended the five year maximum, Judge Schofield imposed three years, minus the 11 months he has already spend in Federal custody - but not minus his jail time in Colombia, it was clarified.

After his sentence he is to be deported to Romania.

  The case is US v. Paunescu, 13-cr-41 (Schofield)
