SDNY COURTHOUSE, June 27 – A man from Iran had a UN immigration trial scheduled for January 2026 in 290 Broadway in Lower Manhattan.
But on June 23 on his way to work he was detained by ICE. He was held at 26 Federal Plaza when his lawyer filed a habeas corpus petition in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, which Inner City Press closely covers.
The petition says petitioner Meysan Khabazha was tortured by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for his political opinions; he his also a Christian. He has been living in The Bronx and working nights. Judge Jesse M. Furman set a proceeding for June 30 - then canceled it when the parties filed a briefing schedule. The Federal Respondents will file on July 11, with reply due on July 16 (and a possible amendment on July 2). The case is Khazazha v. United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, et al., 1:25-cv-5279 (Furman)
