SDNY COURTHOUSE, Jan 9 – The Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq has been sued in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York by Alcazar Capital Partners, based on the Cayman Islands, in connection with a loan it made for mobile networks in the Kurdistan Region.

The complaint, filed on January 9 and found that day by Inner City Press which covers SDNY, cites an April 19, 2022 decision by the Kuwait Court of Appeals.

While based on the Cayman Islands, the plaintiff says it is a private equity firm regulated by the Dubai Finance Services Authority.

It also says that the KRG "explicitly and unconditionally waived sovereign immunity with respect to the Guarantee" at issue.

The case is Alcazar Capital Partners v. Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, 23-cv-186 (Unassigned)
