EDNY COURTHOUSE, Jan 10 – In the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York  on January 10, a proceeding was held by Magistrate Judge Vera M. Scanlon in the case of a man charged with threatening former President Donald J. Trump. Inner City Press covered it, here

proceeding in US v. Thomas Welnicki, 72-year-old of Rockaway Beach, who is charged in EDNY in Booklyn with threatening to kill former President Trump

Federal Defender is with Welnicki in the cell block.

EDNY Magistrate Judge Vera Scanlon: We'll talk about whether the defendant can be released on bond. We'll do this virtually due to Omicron. I find the defendant eligible for publicly-funded counsel.

Assistant US Attorney: We are largely in agreement he can be released on bond for $50,000. His brother is on the line. We'd like alcohol treatment. But we have a provision that is at issue. We want home curfew, we don't agree on GPS. US wants it.

Federal Defender: We don't believe GPS location monitoring is necessary. He has not left NYC in 15 years. GPS would hinder treatment, alcoholic and mental health treatment, and infringe his liberties.

Judge Scanlon: I'm going with pre-trial and imposing GPS monitoring. The suretor?

Suretor: Mr. Welnicki is my brother. Judge: How often do you see him?

Suretor: Twice a year. Judge: Ok, he's released. Avoid all contact with the identified victim or his family.

Brother: If he violates this conditions, what happens with the bond?

Judge: I can't say. You can tell the court you no longer wish to be a suretor. Welnicki is being released. Proceeding is adjourned.

The case is US v. Welnicki, 22-mj-22 (EDNY: Scanlon)
