UNITED NATIONS, March 25 -- After the UN asked Syria “twenty questions” for its chemical weapons probe, Syria's Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari told Inner City Press on Monday, the Syrian response was turned in Monday morning.
Inner City Press asked Ja'afari about the French and UK requests.
Ja'afari called them “irrelevant,” adding that France and UK are trying to undermine the Syrian requested investigation by much widening the “scope, like in Iraq” before the invasion of that country. This mirrored statements by this month's Security Council president Vitaly Churkin of Russia.
Ja'afari said the next step will be a Memorandum of Understanding between the UN and his government about the investigation. Inner City Press asked if, beyond Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the head of UN Disarmament Angela Kane was also part of the process.
Ja'afari said yes.
As Inner City Press has reported, twice, Angela Kane in her previous UN post as Under Secretary General for Management was herself investigated in connection with the UMOJA computer upgrade.
A whistleblower's memo exclusively published by Inner City Press complained that the probe of Kane was quashed for political reasons.
