UN GATE, July 29 – How corrupt is today's UN under Antonio Guterres? While its UNMISS Mission steals a radio station and land by the Juba airport, it stands by as Riek Machar is disappeared - South Sudan and UNMISS, about which his spokespeople Stephane Dujarric and Melissa Fleming refuse all Press questions. Inner City Press has asked them, and others, about the newest sex abuse case against the UN there. This, from a UN whistleblower sent to Inner City Press:
Dear Matthew Russell Lee,
The ongoing leadership vacuum in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). The UN Secretary-General continues to allow an individual—currently on extended sick leave and absent from duty for more than four months to officially lead the mission.
This prolonged absence has raised alarm among South Sudanese officials, many of whom are now questioning the relevance and credibility of the UN’s presence in the country. The political relationship between UN leadership and South Sudanese authorities has significantly deteriorated, with little meaningful engagement taking place.
Of particular concern is the UN's inaction regarding the detention of First Vice President Riek Machar an issue of significant political consequence. Meanwhile, the Secretary-General’s appointed Special Representative remains absent and disengaged from core responsibilities. There are also questions being raised about whether the current SRSG possesses the cultural sensitivity, impartiality, and leadership qualities necessary for such a critical role in South Sudan’s peace and nation-building efforts.
Moreover, an internal survey conducted among UN staff members revealed widespread dissatisfaction. Over 85% of respondents expressed disapproval of the Secretary-General and his senior management team, citing a perceived lack of courage, transparency, and commitment to core UN values. Many believe the current leadership prioritizes self-interest and financial security over the principles enshrined in the UN Charter. These developments signal a growing crisis of confidence—both within the host nation and among UN personnel—and warrant urgent and decisive corrective action.
Guterres, they say, should end censorship. Application was made on June 19, 2025. Watch this site.
