After UNSG Guterres OKed UNCTAD Deputy Whistleblowing Staff Say UN in Decay

by Matthew Russell Lee

UN GATE, Oct 20 – After eight years of failure as UNSG, Antonio Guterres is trying to pick his successor, whistleblowing UN staff tell Inner City Press, while UN Spox Dujarric refuses all questions on this.

"Rebeca Grynspan is using her UNCTAD position as a springboard for her ambitions to take over from him when his term ends in 2026. Instead of focusing on UNCTAD’s core mission to advocate for the interests of developing nations, Grynspan is using the organization to serve her personal ambitions, fully confident that she has Guterres’s tacit endorsement.  In a textbook case of favoritism, in 2022 she appointed her long-time friend, Pedro Manuel Moreno, to the prestigious position of Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD, not for his ability but for his loyalty to Grynspan...

The most egregious aspect of Moreno’s rise, however, is how it was facilitated by Guterres himself. By approving Grynspan’s selection of such an unqualified individual, Guterres effectively rubber-stamped a process that bypassed more deserving candidates in favor of political expediency. To add insult to injury, his loud silence despite damning results of recent surveys on the poor leadership by frustrated and demoralized UNCTAD staff speaks volumes, further underscoring the toxic culture of favoritism and self-interest that has taken root within the UN system."

A fish rots from the head.

Inner City Press filled out a poll on June 11 - the most important qualification for any future SG is refusal to censor as Guterres has. Watch this site.
