UN GATE, Nov 7 – Amid the slaughter of Anglophones in Cameroon by octogenarian strongman Paul Biya, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres went to Yaounde and... took a golden statue from Biya.
Inner City Press, which had repeatedly asked Guterres about Cameroon, was soon thrown out of the UN even as it interviewed Cameroon's Ambassador Tommo Monthe, then chair of the UN Budget Committee.
Monthe bragged that in his meetings with Guterres, Ambazonia was never raised, only favors in the Budget Committee. Now, with Inner City Press still banned and no answer from Guterres' Melissa Fleming, even to a pro bono law firm's letter, this:
"The Secretary-General strongly condemns the 6 November attack against civilians in Egbekaw, Mamfe district in the South-West Region of Cameroon, which reportedly led to several people killed, including children. Many others were injured and displaced, and properties were destroyed. The Secretary-General stresses that attacks against civilians are unacceptable. He urges all Cameroonian stakeholders to work towards a political solution to the crisis in the North-West and South-West Regions of Cameroon. Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General New York, 7 November 2023."
This cannot legitimately be taken a face value. And it should be compared to Guterres' stance on other current conflicts. Inner City Press continues to wait for answers, to its questions and application for re-entry. Watch this site.
