In OneCoin Case William Morro Fast Guilty Plea for Funds from China to US Now Delay

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon

SDNY COURTHOUSE, April 24 -- For scam crypto currency OneCoin, a new defendant was named and arrested on April 23, 2024: William Morro. Inner City Press found the Superseding Information in the docket. There was no announcement beyond that.

Nor was there any announcement that he was immediately pleading guilty, nor the terms. Only this in the docket the next day: "Minute Entry for proceedings held before Judge Edgardo Ramos: Plea entered by William Morro (8) Guilty as to Count 1. Sentencing set for 8/1/2024 at 11:00 AM before Judge Edgardo Ramos."

On July 30, Judge Ramos pushed Morro's sentencing back to September 11. But on August 26, Morro's lawyer wrote in and says he only got the PSR on August 22, and only that day learned of the new sentencing date - apparently doesn't get PACER alerts. He wants more delay, to October 10, 16 or 18.

The Information accused Morro of transferring $35 million in funds connected to OneCoin from China to Hong Kong, then $6,250,000 to a bank account in the US that Morro controlled. He is charged with bank fraud.

He is linked with Gilbert Armenta, who is already trying to get out of his five year prison sentence with a series of sealed submissions.

Judge Ramos denied Inner City Press' application to unseal Karl Sebastian Greenwood's 33 sentencing letters and redacted memo. Inner City Press filed a notice of appeal - and on April 17, 2024, pro bono counsel filed the brief and appendix. Brief on DocumentCloud here.
