UN GATE, Feb 14 – How corrupt is today's UN under Antonio Guterres?
Well, its own staff are so afraid of retaliation by Guterres that their only outlet, they say, is to Inner City Press which itself has been banned from the UN by Guterres, with no due process and December 3, 2022 appeal ignored.
But we continue. Today's story:
"Dear Matthew Russsell Lee / Inner City Press: We are from the Police Division of the United Nations. We come to you as our last resort.
Since March 2022, the Investigations Division of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) has opened an investigation against Mr. Ata Yenigun, Chief of the Selection and Recruitment Section of the UN Police Division, Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI), Department of Peace Operations (DPO).
The investigation concerned numerous reported incidents of serious discrimination, abuses of authority, cases of harassment and for creating an hostile environment to work.
Mr. Yenigun bullies us in his own team but not only. He does the same to the entire staff of the Police Division. And, he has done so for many years. He has always been protected. He was particularly protected to not say that he was even empowered by the former Police Adviser Mr. Luis Carrilho during his entire time as Police Adviser with the support of ASG Zouev.
Several staff suffer(ed) from severe depression, other had/have health issues due to the stress (one had a heart attack).
After years of abuses, 2 female officers were finally courageous enough to report him to the DPO Chief of Staff and to DPO Executive Office but both offices tried to hush up the 2 complaints. Therefore, the two staff members reported him directly to OIOS which finally started an investigation in March 2021. OIOS interviewed dozens of witnesses within the Police Division.
All corroborated the abuses of authority, the bullying, the humiliations and the harassment. We provided several examples, shared more cases and provided strong evidences.
However, almost one year later nothing has been done and Mr. Yenigun continues to terrorize the staff of the Police Division. He continues to harass the ones who do not serve him as he wish, to bully the ones who disagree with him, to humiliate the ones who do not follow his illegal instructions…
He uses his "power" to jeopardize the extension of staff he dislikes or to recruit others who will serve him. He manages by fear and humiliation. For instance, in addition to these 2 courageous women, he had also abused, insulted and humiliated one of our colleagues just because he was gay. Our colleague had no other choice than to find another job and to left the Police Division. Mr. Yenigun has a strong bias against women and other minorities.
Mr. Yenigun is the head of the Police Division recruitment section and as such he controls the contract, the extension of the police division staff. He uses his position to humiliate and bully people. Everyone in OROLSI is well aware of his unacceptable / unethical behavior and abuses, but once more Assistant Secretary-General Zouev does not do anything...
it is not the first time DPO (USG Lacroix is also fully aware) and OROLSI let managers bullying their staff. In the past the Chief of UNMAS was able to do the same for years also… [Inner City Press reported on that, before being roughed up and thrown out of the UN by Guterres' UN Security, which now ignored the written appeal directed by UN PGA Spokesperson Paulina Kubiak).
All of us are scared as we witnessed the way Mr. Yenigun retaliated against people who stood up against him. The contract of some of them were just not extended, some other were professionally discredited, some had to leave the Police Division...
It is not the first time that Mr. Yenigun is under investigation by OIOS but nothing ever happened and we are very concerned that once more nothing will happen and that he will remain in his position... The ones who talked to OIOS are even more concerned that he will take his revenge and will retaliate against them/us. Officially the investigation is still ongoing...
We are sure that you will understand why we want to remain anonymous… we are seriously afraid of retaliations. Please help us by publishing our story.
