UN GATE, July 20 – How corrupt is today's UN under Antonio Guterres? Today Inner City Press focuses in yet again on Sudan, specifically Guterres' failing and wasteful UNISFA mission in Abyei.
Dear Matthew Russell Lee:
These actions have resulted in overpayments totaling at least $2 million since July 2022 through March 2024. When these overpayments were brought to the attention of the CMS Ms. Odenigbo, she failed to take corrective action, recover the misappropriated funds, or hold Mr. Urum accountable. Her inaction indicates a troubling lack of oversight and an apparent protective stance towards her countryman. The overpayments are linked to a conflict of interest involving Ms. Santos, a contractor responsible for invoice review within FEMU. Ms. Santos had close ties to EMDAD and socialized frequently with them.
This, combined with the fact that invoices were reviewed by contractors—contrary to UN regulations requiring UN staff to perform such reviews—enabled unchecked fraudulent overpayments. This misconduct led to monthly overpayments of approximately $30,000, totaling no less than $2 million over the period. The sums of bribes are known to everyone at UNISFA since September 2024 and no one dares to blow the whistle. Below are some sample overpayment figures for 2024: - January 2024: $104,000 - February 2024: $17,000 - March 2024: $15,000
Guterres, How can a UN staff under your watch authorize payments for two years unrendered services and get away with it? Either the staff is corrupt or whoever is protecting the staff is corrupt, and in both cases, it's member states funds, abuse and misuse. It is also evident that Ms. Odenigbo demonstrates systemic favoritism toward Mr. Urum, who, notably, is from the same country as her. More troubling is that Mr. Urum lacks even basic civil engineering qualifications—yet he is entrusted with leading a critical technical section. Despite this, Ms. Odenigbo has consistently endorsed and empowered his role, disregarding necessary technical standards and professionalism. Mr. Guterres, The combined issues of corruption, bribes, favoritism, mismanagement, conflict of interest, and financial malpractice reflect a grave failure of UNISFA leadership, risking the integrity and operational effectiveness of the mission. These actions undermine core principles of transparency, accountability, and meritocracy that the United Nations must uphold. Tell me Mr. Guterres, will you now initiate a comprehensive investigation?
No - now answers.
The Press must be allowed back in to ask.
Now this, from UN whistleblowers through Inner City Press:
...Under the UN80 reform, what we know so far is, among the positions to cut (mainly individuals from the base) there are 3 P5 positions. It seems they've been singled out by either their sexual orientation or due to their nationality and gender (female). Competent and capable women singled out, cornered to the point where their careers are about to be terminated in retaliation
And what is the UN of Antonio Guterres doing about all this? Nothing - but banning the Press that reports it. On June 19, 2025, reapplied to re-enter, here, to get answers in person to these questions since they do not answer written questions - totally corrupt.
We'll have more on all this. Keep the info coming.
