With Malaysia Atop UNSC, Inner City Press Asks Ramlan Bin Ibrahim Abuse Yemen, Abuse of Children in Central African Republic, June 18 Debate

UNITED NATIONS, June 2 -- As Malaysia assumed the UN Security Council presidency for June, Inner City Press asked its Permanent Representative Ramlan Bin Ibrahim on June 2 about the process on the conflict in Yemen slipping away from the UN, and about the alleged sexual abuse of children by French peacekeepers in the Central African Republic. Video here and embedded below.

   Ramlan Bin Ibrahim replied, on Yemen, that there would be a Security Council meeting on June 3, which he would not like to prejudge. Inner City Press notes that there has been a UK-drafted Press Statement pending, into which the GCC has been trying to insert references to the Houthi-less Riyadh Declaration (and but, for example, including the Peace and Partnership Agreement which parties in Yemen previously adopted).

  On the alleged sexual abuse in CAR,  Ramlan Bin Ibrahim said in his national capacity that Malaysia believes that international peacekeepers should be held to the highest standard, that there should be full implementation of the UN's stated Zero Tolerance policy, and that “accurate reporting” should be expected.

  On June 18, Malaysia has scheduled a Council debate on Children and Armed Conflict. We'll be there.
