UN GATE, July 10 – UNESCO, like the whole UN system under Antonio Guterres was been falling apart in corruption and fraud.
Inner City Press has been reporting on serious malfeasance by the French Audrey Azoulay administration at UNESCO in Paris, almost as bad as Antonio Guterres' corruption in and of the UN in New York. A fish rots from the head.
The UNESCO corruption series is more than 100 stories long. Still, in June 2023 the US administration (which has done nothing about Guterres banning Inner City Press for asking about his links to bribery firm China Energy Fund Committee) said it is rejoining UNESCO and paying it $600 million, ostensibly to combat China - which it doesn't do at the UN. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma submitted a letter to Azoulay formalizing the plan to rejoin.
On July 11, Azoulay issued this: "Paris, 10 July 2023 - Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, had a telephone meeting on Sunday with Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States of America. With just a few days to go before the United States returns to UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay and Antony Blinken discussed the Organization's major upcoming events and strategic priorities on the telephone. "The Secretary of State emphasized the United States' determination to play a full role in UNESCO's mandate, and in particular to provide greater support for our work to promote education in Africa, the protection of heritage in Ukraine, the memory of The Holocaust and press freedom and the safety of journalists throughout the world," said the Director-General."
Press freedom? The UN's Antonio Guterres still bans Inner City Press. We'll have more on this.
During DG Azoulay's term in office, abuse and corruption are spreading around unpunished. Not only have measures not been taken to fight fraud, but even worse, those involved in the corruption schemes are getting generous UNdeserved promotions and cushy jobs, while those exposing the corruption are under constant threat of harassment and mistreatments like in the Culture and Science Sectors of the agency.
This is where UNESCO stands today. We will have more on that. Watch this site.
