Venezuela Ex Spy Chief Carvajal Mulls Immunity and Extradition Motions by Jan 27

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Nov 12 – Venezuela's former spy chief Hugo Armando Carvajal Barrios a/k/a El Pollo is in US custody in a narco-trafficking conspiracy case begun in 2011, after a long extradition fight in Spain.

    Carvajal was arraigned by U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Stuart D. Aaron on July 20. Inner City Press thread: more on Substack here

Jump cut to October 8, 2024 - Judge Hellerstein inquired into discovery (some jail calls are still to be produced) and set a trial date: June 23, 2025. Pollo's new lawyer, however, is not yet CIPA certified...

On November 12 the case convened again, and Inner City Press was there, from the thread:

All rise! Judge: How are you, Mr. Caravajal? Pollo: Bien, juez. Defense counsel: I am working to get CIPA clearance... I am contemplating moving against the extradition, and for sovereign immunity
