UN GATE, Nov 6 – How corrupt is today's UN under Antonio Guterres? Today's example is from Colombia, on which Spox Stephane Dujarric and Melissa Fleming have refused all written questions from banned Inner City Press:
Dear Matthew, Following the information and warnings you previously reported, it’s now widely acknowledged within UNVMC that corruption has taken deep root, with figures like SRSG Carlos Ruiz, Chief HR Mar Brusola, and her partner Chief Conduct and Discipline Federico Ledesma heavily involved. The recent allegations only add to Brusola’s documented history of corrupt practices, as outlined in prior Inner City Press reports. Her actions demonstrate a disturbing pattern of favoritism, manipulation, and abuse of power.
[Note: Carlos Ruiz is aware of the banning of Inner City Press, and has done nothing]
A clear example of her influence is the promotion of Ms. Loreto Ferrer from a P3 to a P5, a leap made despite Ferrer’s prior failures at the P4 level. This promotion was reportedly enabled by Ferrer’s very close ties with SRSG Carlos Ruiz. Ferrer has allegedly collaborated with Brusola to cover for each other’s indiscretions.
Meanwhile, Brusola’s partner, Federico Ledesma, has played a critical role in silencing any reports of her misconduct, hushing complaints, and intimidating anyone attempting to speak out.
Brusola’s established methods of undermining fair recruitment are further highlighted in her alleged scheme with an FSU representative to sabotage a qualified female candidate poised to replace the problematic Erich Ball—who, despite his public stance, was widely known for actions not aligning with his principles. Instead, Brusola paved the way for Yang Wang, noted primarily for his photography skills but lacking in any substantive contributions.
Furthermore, Ledesma has played a significant role in protecting corrupt figures like Jaime Munoz. Known for his mistreatment of national staff and exploitation of contractors, Munoz has reportedly been protected by Ledesma, who has ensured that staff complaints against him are silenced, while intimidating whistleblowers with investigations.
National staff, working in a country already scarred by violence, now face corruption within the very organization meant to bring stability and justice. This ongoing abuse and manipulation highlight the urgent need for the UN to confront and address internal corruption before further damage is done.
