FEDERAL COURT, Jan 21 – Thomas Baranyi, charged with January 6 "violent entry or disorderly conduct restricted building," the U.S. Capitol, appeared on January 21 before U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Magistrate Judge G. Michael Harvey.

Inner City Press which is covering #insurrectionBlues (Harvey song here) live tweeted the proceeding, here:

Baranyi says he is 28 years old.

Judge Harvey: I'm going to turn you off for a moment, I'm going to tell you a few things. You are eligible for appointment of counsel, the Federal Defender. Unmute and say yes or no. Baranyi: Yes sir.

US says Baranyi is "a resident of New Jersey, was interviewed by a reporter with WUSA-9, a local DC TV station, on the U.S. Capitol Grounds about forcing his way into US .Capitol building."

AUSA: We are not seeking detention pre-trial. We ask standard supervision. Stay away from DC except for court. Not travel outside of US, no illegal firearms, relinquish passport- he spent 2 years abroad in the Peace Corps. He built an international network. Federal Defender: I don't think it's necessary. He doesn't plan to travel

Judge Harvey: This "stay-away" [from DC] is becoming a standard condition. You must report weekly to Pre-Trial in DC- it can be by phone. Any travel out of NJ, you must notify Pre-Trial. For out of the US, you must ask the Court. When you get passport, turn it in

Judge Harvey: He was arrested January 12. We'll set the preliminary hearing for Feb 3 at 11:30 am, before Judge Meriweather, if the US doesn't file an information or indict. Exclude time to review social media -- request made by Federal Defender, not SDNY practice.
