Murder Detainee Cites Wanted Poster and Fruit of Poisoned Tree amid Victim Kin Hall Talk

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Aug 26 รข€“ A 67-year-old man detained on attempted murder charges was brought before NYS Justice Ann D. Thompson on August 26 in 111 Centre Street. Inner City Press was there.  

 His Legal Aid lawyer, who sat through other cases while reading a newspaper and chatting with a colleague, caught fire when he went to the defense table. He announced he is seeking to unseal information about a Wanted poster shown in the NYCHA housing projects that led to his client's arrest.

   He may, he said, seek to suppress the subsequent identification based on the fruit of the poisonous tree doctrine. He will be brought from Rikers Island on October 7.

  Also before Justice Thompson on August 26 were, in no particular order, a man with three masters degrees proceeding pro se to his attempted murder trial in slightly over a month; another man whose lawyer is said to be engaged in a three months' long in The Bronx and who was said to have to wait until 2028 for his own trial; and a defendant allowed to change to his fourth lawyer who asked for his discovery on his own behalf.  

 Meanwhile two stories down a murder trial has begun before Justice Steven M. Statsinger. The defendant was 16 at the time of the shooting, the victim only a year older.

In the hall relatives spoke of the importance of showing up so the jury would see that the victim had people.
