LITERARY SDNY, Oct 11 – Now Anthony Rapp was on the stand, or on the cross, under cross examination by Kevin Spacey's lawyer. She mocked him, as selling only 26 CDs of his music.
She repeatedly implied that the basis for his accusation was that he was jealous of Spacey and his movies, which she mentioned in turn.
You threw pencils at the TV screen when Kevin Spacey won the Oscar, didn't you, she asked. One pencil, Rapp insisted.
American Beauty was very well received, wasn't it, she asked. He supposed it was, adding how the predator - or was it slacker? - character Spacey played, Lester Burnham, made him feel. This became a worldwide lead.
The coverage was defendant-centric. This was true in the Ghislaine Maxwell trial too, Kurt Wheelock supposed. But this was different. While live tweeting that trial, he had got over the transom almost no defense of Ghislaine.
Here he was hearing from Spacey supporters, and perhaps separately, from MeToo doubters. Rapp had said he decided to go public once he read an op-ed about Harvey Weinstein. But it turned out that was published five days later.
Did that mean Kevin Spacey was not a predator? Kurt Wheelock thought, and sang, No. But would the jury doubt Rapp? More on Patreon here.
