SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 9 รข€“ A man on parole who got shot at Morris Avenue and 162nd Street in The Bronx in January has now been indicted as a felon in possession of a gun.

On October 15 he pled not guilty in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrates Court, which Inner City Press closely covers.

The shooting gave rise to a search that the Complaint recounts had been consented to in advance, as a condition. A Taurus pistol was found.

On July 11, 2025 Neil's counsel asked to preclude the government from cross-examining Neil about certain prior convictions and from arguing that he posed a danger to anyone.

On July 16 Neil pleaded guilty to Count 1, in the SDNY Magistrates Court.

On October 24 his Federal Defender wrote in that "although not formally docketed, I believe sentencing is currently scheduled for November 12... I request an adjournment to January 26."

In fact, it was pushed to April 15, 2026. On April 1 his Federal Defender wrote in asking for time served and supervised release.

And on July 9, 2026 he got just that: time served and three years of supervised release.

The case is USA v. Neil, 24-cr-565 (Hellerstein)
