2019 Prepares to Plead Guilty
to Crack and Gun in The
Bronx

April 30 รข A man who was
sentenced to 42 months in
prison in 2019 for robbery
with what appeared to be a gun
was arrested again on May 1
selling crack in The Bronx, on
196th Street and Briggs
Avenue.
He was presented on Federal
felon in possession of a
firearm charges on May 15
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Magistrate Judge Valerie
Figueredo. Inner City Press
was there, the only media in
the SDNY Mag
court. The Federal
Defender argued for release on
bond, the AUSA for detention. Judge
Figueredo ordered detention,
with a preliminary hearing
waived to the 30th day, June
16. Jump cut months
forward to November 12, when
the case was indicted and
wheeled out to Judge Vyskocil. On April 30, 2026
Judge Vyskocil set a change of
plea (to guilty) for May 4 at
2 pm. The case is now USA v. Matias, 1:25-cr-526 (Vyskocil)
