SDNY COURTHOUSE, Dec 5 – For doing business to enable the Assad government of Syria, Union De Banques Arabes Et Francaises has been sued, with the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) cited.

On December 1, 2022, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Edgardo Ramos held a proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

Discussion focused on when a bank can be said to control money, and when it has responsibility. The plaintiffs allege that "Syria's fraudulent conveyances cannot stand." But will they?

Judge Ramos granted defendants leave to file a motion to dismiss by December 15, with discovery stayed pending decision of the motion.

The case is Foley et al v. Union De Banques Arabes Et Francaises, 22-cv-1682 (Ramos)
